In Jan­u­ary 2017, UNGA Pres­i­dent Peter Thom­son appoint­ed Cather­ine Boura, Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Greece, and Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani, Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Qatar, as co-facil­i­ta­tors to con­sult with Mem­ber States on the prepa­ra­tions for this high-lev­el meet­ing. The result­ing modal­i­ties res­o­lu­tion (A/RES/71/287), adopt­ed on 4 May 2017, sets the date for 27–28 Sep­tem­ber 2017.

In accor­dance with GA res­o­lu­tion 71/287 on the “Modal­i­ties, for­mat and orga­ni­za­tion of the high-lev­el meet­ing of the Gen­er­al Assem­bly on the appraisal of the Unit­ed Nations Glob­al Plan of Action to Com­bat Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons”, a High-Lev­el Meet­ing of the ple­nary of the Gen­er­al Assem­bly will be con­vened to appraise progress achieved in the imple­men­ta­tion of the Glob­al Plan of Action to Com­bat Traf­fick­ing in Per­sons (Res­o­lu­tion 64/293), in order to assess achieve­ments, gaps and chal­lenges, includ­ing in the imple­men­ta­tion of the rel­e­vant legal instruments.
